Linen closets can be their own special nightmare. First of all, the physical closet itself is often too small to really be that effective. Additionally, it seems as though these closets become a dumping ground for all the wedding, Christmas and shower gifts you might have received throughout the years. As time passes, this little closet gets harder and harder to close. The blankets and sheets inside get harder to fold and even more difficult to stack. How many times a week do you find yourself slamming your entire body against the door, just trying to shove the contents back inside? This isn’t a functional way to live, but it’s a reality many of us face. Below, we’ve collaborated and produced “The Expert’s Guide to Decluttering Linens.” Let us know what you think in the comments below!
- Does It Match Your House? You probably spent hours with a designer or on Pinterest trying to figure out the best theme and color scheme for your home. Perhaps you selected a beautiful cream couch that you’ve adorned with olive green throw pillows and a grey cashmere blanket. This was gorgeous until your Aunt Midge dropped off the hand crocheted bright red cardinal blanket that you now put out whenever she visits. Instead of wasting valuable storage space, just let that thing go. How often does she visit anyway?
- Does It Still Work? Does that set of sheets still actually stay on the mattress? Is that quilt really ripped up? Does that comforter just smell really bad? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, it’s time to throw the sheets away or repurpose them for your own DIY project.
- Are They Clean? Even if they aren’t being used, it’s important to wash your linens fairly frequently as the dust can accumulate over time. It could be really overwhelming to clean everything on your own, so signing up with Freshly Folded is a fantastic idea. Not to mention, taking everything out will help you sort through the “keepers” and “throwaways.”
What else would you add? We’re all about cozy and warm linens, but sometimes less is definitely more.
